Sugarcane Bagasse

What is Bagasse?

Bagasse is the byproduct of harvesting sugarcane that was previously thrown away or burned. Now, this plant fiber has gained several uses as an alternative resource for fuel, paper, and tableware resulting in a reduced impact on pollution and energy consumption. It is a growing trend as environmentally conscious consumers are driving businesses to make the switch to eco-friendly solutions.

One of the many benefits of bagasse products is that they are biodegradable within 90 days, compared to the estimated 400 years it would take for plastic to degrade. Converting from plastic disposable tableware to bagasse disposable tableware is a step in the right direction of lowering our carbon footprint.

Bagasse Texture and Color

Bagasse sugarcane is fibrous which creates a very different texture to plastic alternatives. Bagasse tableware will feel slightly rough and similar to cardboard, although many products are smoothed out such as plates and bowls. The natural color of bagasse products will be a beige or light brown but you may also find them bleached white.

Bagasse Durability

Bagasse containers and tableware are just as strong and durable as plastic. Plates and containers are able to handle both hot and cold food. In fact, bagasse can withstand temperatures up to 200 degree Fahrenheit! They are also microwaveable and refrigerator safe.
